We're talking about the one in the backstreets of Nambour near the local swimming pool. The one our parents would drop us off at with no helmets (hardcore, right?) and $5 to buy some lollies from the pool. You'd spend hours dropping in the half-pipe, watching pre-downloaded skating videos on our Motorola flip-phones, and leaving with scabs forming on your knees. Those were definitely the simpler days.

Traino

Succulent lamb with mint jelly, fresh rocket, tomato, red onion, aioli and FRIES. Served on our famous house-made Soft Pretzel Bun. The mince sauce has gluten in it. We suggest changing this to ranch or chipotle aioli for gluten intolerance. FORMERLY KNOWN AS ‘LAMB BURGER’ For some kids, catching the train to and from school was pretty normal. But for us country folk, going to the train station usually meant only one thing: some kind of adventure to the big city of Brisbane. You'd spend ages preparing for casual two and a half hour ride (unless you splashed out for one of those fancy “Express Train” tickets.) You had your snacks, A Discman and maybe even a Gameboy. It would be a journey on it’s own just catching the train. After a daily outing, you knew one thing when you'd pullin to the station with those screeching wheels, and that was Maccas on the way home, even after your parents spent the train ride telling you there's ‘plenty of food at home.

Venturing the long trek across the oval to another world away from school, even in the wildest weather. Lessons filled with laughs and curiosity. Learning about plants, caring for your farm animals and how to secretly sabotage the other class's corn crops. Learning to drive the tractor around, touching the electric fence and finding the baby pigs head in a jar. Ahh those were the days, weren't they?

Big Pineapple

We suggest changing this to tomato sauce or no sauce for gluten intolerance. FORMERLY KNOWN AS 'TROPICAL PARADISE' The Big 'P'. The Juicy Beast. We all remember it. Way before it was the symbol for a well-known Music Festival, it was a cultural hub for young families back in the day. Designed by Peddle Thorp and Harvey, Paul Luff, and Gary Smallcombe and Associates, it is now a heritage-listed tourist attraction beloved by many. You'd grab an ice-cream, maybe some hot chips and get lost inside the 16m high circular playground. If you were lucky, your parents would take you to Thrill Hill afterwards. Truly a fantastic day for a young child.

FORMERLY KNOWN AS ‘PULLED PORK BURGER’ It’s a name you either wear with shame, or with pride. We chose to wear it with pride, of course. I mean come on, we're the capital of the Maroochy Shire. We're the centre of the Sunshine Coast. We made K-Rudd the man he is today. The stigma from over the years has been built from hear-say, stories and gossip passed through many mouths. Nambour is filled with an array of colourful characters that we love and cherish to be apart of our community. When you ask, most people from Nambour are more than happy to admit their place of origin, and call themselves a true Nambourian.

FORMERLY KNOWN AS 'BLUE CHEESE BURGER' It's the Big K-Rudd, the HandBall Champ, one of the only Prime Ministers we're quite okay with having in our history books. Nambour High's pride and joy. We'll never forget the day we were sitting in class, him and Wayno Swan rocked up, had a quick handball comp with us, a few cheeky High-Fives and then left with the promise of a free laptop. I mean come on guys, some of the first things he did in parliament was actual action on climate change and delivering the first national Apology to Indigenous Australians for the Stolen Generations. Truly not a bad icon to have as a kid growing up.

Cane Farmer

Teriyaki marinated chicken topped with pear, fresh rocket, parmesan, chipotle aioli and FRIES. Served on our famous house-made Soft Pretzel Bun. Teriyaki chicken contains gluten, this can be substituted for our almond and coconut encrusted chicken or try our crispy chicken. FORMERLY KNOWN AS 'TERIYAKI CHICKEN' If you've been around these parts long enough, you'd remember what stood before all the new housing estates in and around Nambour. That's right, sugar cane farms. We remember riding our motorbikes through the fields, and we remember watching the cane fires burn ferociously into the sunset. You'd know the names of the all the local cane-farmers and where their land was, only mentioning them again when the fields were sold and eventually sub-divided. But most of all, we remember tasting the sweet, sweet sugar-cane juice at the Nambour Show, and getting a bit of a kick out of it.

The burger ingredients are Gluten Free. FORMERLY KNOWN AS 'DOWNTOWN BURGER' The Traditional Gubbi Gubbi Name for 'Nambour'. We remember learning about the history of Australia at school and it having a profound impact on us growing up :) We recognise that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for more than 65,000 years. The first inhabitants of the Maroochy District were the Aboriginal people of the Gubbi Gubbi language group, which consisted of a number of tribe's including the Nalbo, Kabi, Dallambara and Undanbi. In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

King of Currie St

The burger ingredients are Gluten Free. FORMERLY KNOWN AS 'BAR-RAT BURGER' We all remember shopping on the Main Street back in the day, with many great businesses coming and going. The early streets of Nambour were officially named in 1896, with Currie St & Mitchell St being the only two names remaining unchanged to this day. The Currie family at one time owned the general store, a butcher shop and also a hotel in the main street of Nambour.

FORMERLY KNOWN AS 'ULTIMATE BREAKFAST' 'Bit of a bad wrap' is probably an understatement to describe Quota Park, but we remember it was all the rage when that fancy new playground was revealed. It was like every kids dream come true. Hours upon hours spent in the multi-coloured wonderland, chasing each other around and interacting with all the built-in contraptions. It also features an enormous 35-tonne sculpture of a set of cogs and gears from the old Moreton Sugar Mill in Nambour. Quota Park is located alongside the 'strip', which also has a number of popular features such as the memorial space for veterans with the Heroes walk and Cenotaph, as well as the Goong' Gai Ba indigenous garden. Believe it or not, Quota Park has an impressive 4 star rating on Google Reviews.

Tom Petrie

FORMERLY KNOWN AS 'CRISPY CHICKEN' Mate, let us tell you about Mr Thomas Petrie. Born on 31 January 1831 in Edinburgh, he arrived with his parents and moved with them to Moreton Bay in 1837. Educated by a convict clerk, he was allowed to mix freely with Aboriginal children and he learnt to speak the Brisbane tribal dialect (Turrabul) and encouraged to share in all their activities. In 1862, Tom Petrie with 25 Turrbal and Kabi Kabi men including Ker-Walli, Wanangga and Billy Dinghy entered Petrie's Creek with the view to exploit the large cedar growing in the vicinity. They encountered some resident Aboriginal people with whom they had a traditional ceremony together. Afterwards, they made a permanent logging camp further up the creek in the area now known as Nambour. The Nambour area then had its first permanent European settlement in 1870.

Gubbi Gubbi

FORMERLY KNOWN AS 'THE OG VEGAN' The Gubbi Gubbi people are the Traditional Custodians of the land located in South East Queensland, within the Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast, Noosa and Gympie region. After caring for this land for over 18,000 years, we feel it is pretty appropriate that they are indeed, the OGs of our land. We're quite grateful to have learnt about our rich culture and history during school. With permission, and in the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. You'd be pretty stoked to get the day off school, and sure, trekking through the streets of Nambour with hundreds of your classmates was enjoyable. But, if you didn't enjoy the whole actual 'swimming aspect', you'd try and get out of it. Just a quick 'excuse my child' note from the parents usually did the trick. If you're reading this and thinking 'nah I loved competing', you're definitely that one kid that just came 1st in all the races. You're the Emma Mckeon of the school. Yeah yeah, we know getting active is good and all, but we just wanted to buy ice blocks from the canteen and hang out with our mates.
